Planning your visit to the Rijksmuseum
A few practical tips to help you get the most from your visit.
Tickets
Tickets are sold only via the official Rijksmuseum website. Timed entry is required. We do not sell tickets. Book in advance, especially for weekends and holidays.
When to go
Mornings and late afternoons are often quieter. The Gallery of Honour and the Night Watch attract the most visitors; consider seeing them early or saving them for later when crowds thin.
How long to spend
The collection is vast. A minimum of half a day is realistic for a first visit. Many visitors return multiple times to explore different wings and temporary exhibitions.
Inside the museum
Audio guides and printed guides are available from the museum. There is a café and a shop. Photography is allowed in most areas without flash. For accessibility and current rules, check the official Rijksmuseum website.
